Nomenclature
[edit]Given that he is now an Israeli and that Natan is his Israeli name, it should appear in the Hebrew alphabet, not the Russian. Adam 08:02, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- I'd say both. Since he is a notable leader of the Russian community in Israel, the Cyrillic could be also useful (for google search, etc) after Hebrew. ←Humus sapiens←Talk 08:10, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
On a related note, when did he change the romanization of his surname from "Shcharansky" to "Sharansky"? I seem to remember seeing it spelled with the initial "Shch" (Щ) during his Soviet captivity...but that was a long time ago. Ellsworth 21:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism of Book cover
[edit]Somebody changed the book cover to a smiley face. I can't find the original in the file history which is exceedingly weird. Is it legal to use the image off of amazon? ie http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/1891620029.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1056536174_.jpg ?
Sharansky as a spy?
[edit]I don't know why someone wrote that he was a Soviet spy and vor v zakone agent. This is libelous, and whoever wrote that must take care not to do it again. Maybe have this article protected, if it keeps getting changed to 'spy'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arielkoiman (talk • contribs) 03:51, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
According to this link, http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/sharansky-pressured-to-release-kgb-papers-1.63430, some Soviet refuseniks, such as Yuli Nudelman, have charged that Sharansky may have been a KGB agent. A friend of mine who has lived in Russia his whole life, and who has many contacts, claims that the people who were in the refusenik network in the 1970s had never heard of Sharansky, and they are therefore extremely suspicious of him, specifically that he may indeed have been working for the KBG. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.181.10.252 (talk) 13:55, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Doubtful character
[edit]When it appeared that Sharansky was a dissident against Soviet dictatorship I engaged myself in campaigns in his favour. Had I known that he would later become a partisan of the right-wing Likud and deny Palestinians their human rights, would rub shoulders with the "democrat" Putin and the mafioso Luchansky, I would certainly not have done so. Sources?
[edit]To which sources this edit/claim was referenced, exactly? Thanks, My very best wishes (talk) 18:36, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- The language looked fine to me, reflected in the main body. There is unanimous agreement it was US intelligence and Sharansky names the DIA as the agency in "Fear No Evil" page 164 (he also named NATO). There is a document written in the run up to the trial from the US intelligence side which indicated the likely charges. I don't see what the problem is.Jkmaskell (talk) 19:11, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- I do not have the book except a synopsis to the book telling: Sharansky tells of his sixteen months under interrogation on a capital charge of treason as a team of KGB officers amassed more than fifty volumes of "evidence" to prove that he was an American spy, a charge that was fundamentally false. If so, then speaking about the intro, we should either tell that the claim was "fundamentally false" or simply tell that he was imprisoned (and describe details in body of the page). I prefer the latter, but telling that claims were false in intro would also be fine. My very best wishes (talk) 20:05, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

External links
[edit]- There were eleven entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.
- ELpoints #3) states:
Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
- LINKFARM states:
There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
- WP:ELMIN:
Minimize the number of links
. - WP:ELCITE:
access dates are not appropriate in the external links section. Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section.
- WP:ELBURDEN:
Disputed links should be excluded by default unless and until there is a consensus to include them.
