Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit]

Hi Boarder,

Sorry to oppose your [Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Mackerel sky over Orlando, FL|recent nominate]] on WP:FPC. On the other hand, I felt that your photo was heading in the right direction, in that it wasn't an obvious shot and definately illustrated the subject. So if you had any other pictures that you were pleased with, they could be useful on the right page. -- Solipsist 01:29, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Bobber2 and Ed, Edd n Eddy

[edit]

Howdy, You seem to have put a lot of excellent work into this article, so I figured I'd bring this up with you. As I'm sure you've noticed, Bobber2 has been creating some highly questionable episode articles. I stumbled on this by a notice on the Cleanup page. I've left a comment on the articles Talk page mentioning this, but the guy keeps erasing the comment. Serious violation of Wikiquette. I've left notice of this on his talk page, too, but I'm starting to doubt that he reads it. Maybe you could contact him and kind of take him in hand and help him improve his work. He doesn't seem to take me seriously. Thanks Soundguy99 17:23, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your compliment. I've also tried to talk to Bobber2 at his talk page. I guess he doesn't read it, so I've sent him an email that includes links to Manual of Style, Policies and Guidelines, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Civility, and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. Hopefully he'll read the email and the issue can be resolved.—Quickbreak 20:55, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Our pal Bobber2 is at it again; check out Eddy (Ed, Edd n Eddy). WTF is that ??? Also look at his user page. Has he replied to your email? Soundguy99 00:59, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Wow. That's just whacked. And, no, Bobber2 hasn't replied to my email, unfortunately.—Quickbreak 14:18, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
well, one of Bobber2's articles just got put up on VfD by the administrator RickK. (The article is George Clooney (movie character) which appears to be connected with Team America: World Police which seems to be one of Bobber2's other obsessions.) I shot RickK a comment about Bobber2 on his talk page. Maybe you should do the same so he knows there's more than one person who's noticed a problem. Soundguy99 02:51, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I'll leave a message on his talk page sometime today. Unfortunately, I'm kinda busy today....—Quickbreak 13:45, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

See what Bobber2 did to George Clooney (movie character). He moved it and deleted the VfD header without discussion. RickK 23:08, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

Yah, I noticed the Bobber1 thing a couple of days ago. Somewhere on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard RickK posted something about Bobber2 and I added a heads-up about the name change to that post. We'll see how this develops. . . . Soundguy99 04:04, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

more BobberFun

[edit]

Ok, I'm starting to lose my patience here. . . Earlier today I put another "shape up" message onto User talk:Bobber1. (I mean, more politely, of course.) His count of bizarre and useless edits keeps rising, and he's also operated as User:63.147.240.11. Other administrators besides RickK have begun to notice this. See Avast Ye Eds. If I don't see a meaningful response by Sunday night, I'm gonna post something on Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous) and see if we can collect other editors who've found him a problem to participate in trying to clue him in. If I don't see a significant change a few days after that, I'm gonna start up a Request for Comment and start the official wheels in motion to either get this guy to straighten out or go somewhere else. I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd keep any eye out for this, as apparently an RFC requires at least two editors to have the same problem with one user. (The ironic thing here is that almost all of his edits are to stuff (including Ed, Edd n Eddy) that I really know nothing about and don't have much intereest in. So the guy could be useful if he'd just learn how to edit properly. I guess willful ignorance just rubs me the wrong way.) I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Soundguy99 21:40, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for never responding. My PC got TROJAN'd (::looks around:: Yes, it's running Windows) last Monday.—Quickbreak 18:30, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Urk. Hope everything's OK for you. Bobber update: User:Mjb discovered goofy edits done thru 63.147.240.11 and 63.147.240.12, went investigating. He thinks those IPs are proxies for a Texas school district, and Bobber or Bobber-style edits have dropped off considerably over the last few days. So hopefully the kid doesn't have much access to a computer over the summer, and maybe he'll lose interest in Wikipedia by the time he gets back to the school computers. If you see any further activity, let me know and I'll try to help clean it up. I'm not gonna pursue any public or formal notices until or unless the massive bad editing starts up again. Thanks. Soundguy99 16:52, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at least he's putting the Hitchhiker silliness in Talk space and not directly in the article. . . . . . although I think he did try to put some "Hitchhiker translation" in some other article and got shot down pretty quick. That's what I think he's doing - rewriting the article in some imaginary language from "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy." I've got his various User pages on my "Watch" list and every couple of days I spot-check some of his edits to see what he's up to. He's actually not quite as obnoxious as he used to be (maybe I scared him) and he has slowed down some, so I guess I've regained my patience. But if you see anything else especially weird, or he starts making horrible edits like mad to "E,E&E" or anywhere else you see, definitely let me know. As far as I'm concerned, he's on parole, and another fit of bad behavior and I will RFC him. In my posts above, I didn't mean you should stop posting to me about Bobber1/2, I just meant that I can't necessarily do much to clean up after him, unless he fucks up really obviously. If he added "Eddy walks around with his finger up his nose all day" I wouldn't have the slightest idea if it was true or not. But no need to stop posting Bobberstuff on my talk page. Soundguy99 05:22, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As far as other Bobber-favorites go, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (movie) is another favorite, and several anime shows on Cartoon Network. Just click "User contributions" in the box on the left when you're at his various User pages and you can see what he's been up to. Speaking of which, I think I'll go check right now . . . . . Yeah, I know I haven't been exactly quiet in the summaries. Bobber's been doing this forever, though, and it's really getting on my nerves. He doesn't respond to emails or comments on talk pages. But, yeah, I'll take off the CAPS LOCK.—Quickbreak 17:39, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Marshmallow's Last Stand.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Marshmallow's Last Stand.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. YellowDot 03:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Thanks for uploading Image:Emery_-_The_Weak's_End_cover.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 09:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:RadioShack logo.png

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:RadioShack logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ace_Troubleshooter.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ace_Troubleshooter.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Redirect of Ramahanukwanzmas

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ramahanukwanzmas, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ramahanukwanzmas is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ramahanukwanzmas, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Orphaned non-free media (File:My Way logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:My Way logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:04, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:SimCity main menu.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:SimCity main menu.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NanohaA'sYuriTalk, My master 19:34, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:PC-BSD logo.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:PC-BSD logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The article Back in the Shootin' Match has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

indie release from a notable band. Does not meet WP:NALBUMS,

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
